BCCG Press Release: British Chamber of Commerce welcomes Brexit agreement and calls for confidence
Berlin, 24 December 2020 – with relief and joy, the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany (BCCG) welcomes the last-minute partnership agreement between United Kingdom and the EU. “This negotiation result gives German and British companies a bit more security after a long period of uncertainty in what are currently difficult economic times anyway.” says the President of the BCCG, Michael Schmidt. “Continuity in trade and investment are thus ensured: Supply chains will remain in place, jobs will be preserved and positive opportunities will continue to present themselves for export and investment." The most important thing now is to promptly turn the results of the talks into valid legal and trade regulations.
The Brexit trade deal is an important signal, especially in view of the current COVID-19 pandemic and its global economic consequences, “No country or company can currently afford further disruptions in economic trade”, clarifies Schmidt. Moreover, it is important to steer through the crisis with courage and confidence. Schmidt called on companies to continue to fill the close partnership with the United Kingdom with life, in economic relations as well as in social and security policy issues and climate protection. Or to put it in the words of Prince Charles: “We will always be friends, partners and allies. There is nothing
to add to that.”
Just as the coronavirus crisis, among other things, has accelerated digital transformation and the acceptance of new media many times over, it is now essential to use the positive experience gained from this to reshape business models worldwide. “Every crisis also offers opportunities. It is important to take advantage of them. We must look ahead and shape the future. This is what the BCCG stands for together with its members.”
The British Chamber of Commerce in Germany e.V. (BCCG) is the largest British Chamber of Commerce in Europe and the second largest international Chamber of Commerce in Germany. Its patron is the British Ambassador.
