We have several internships available throughout 2023 – 2024, based at one of our three locations at the British Embassy in Berlin and the Consulates-General in Munich and Düsseldorf.

During your internship with DIT, you will have the chance to work with colleagues across the whole team and become actively involved in a variety of areas and issues through analytical, organisational, communication and administrative tasks.

You will have a manager to support you throughout your internship and you will gain insights and first-hand experience supporting trade and investment across a range of exciting sectors including priorities like clean growth, life sciences, and technology.

Types of activities you will support might include:

  • Researching policy for a strategy paper or briefing for Minister or Ambassador;
  • Conducting market research on specific sectors and gathering feedback from businesses through a mixture of desk research and attending trade fairs / conferences;
  • Planning and helping to deliver events, receptions and VIP visit programmes;
  • Researching and drafting communications e.g. for articles, interviews, speeches and social media.
  • Undertake market research and industrial sector mapping for reports, briefings and other ad-hoc requests;
  • Support event management of VIP and Ministerial visits;
  • Support the planning and coordination of key meetings and calls with relevant business stakeholders, business events, webinars, receptions etc. and produce meeting readouts;
  • Develop and implement new social media and marketing ideas supporting the external representation of DIT;
  • Be involved in other administrative tasks such as stakeholder management and Customer Relationship Management. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Undertake market research and industrial sector mapping for reports, briefings and other ad-hoc requests;

Our ideal candidate shows:

  • Excellent German and English language skills (both written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Have an interest in business, economics and/or supporting the UK-DE bilateral relationship;
    Keen to work within an international setting and a good team player;
  • Drive and enthusiasm, combined with the ability to deliver, working as part of a team;
  • Resourcefulness and strong research skills with the ability to act on your own initiative to find creative solutions to problems;
  • Excellent communication skills to work with business contacts and a wide and diverse DIT team;
    Highly organised, flexible with an excellent eye for detail;
  • Happy to engage in a wide range of tasks;
    Confident user of MS Office;
    Social media skills would be useful but are not essential.
