The British Government in Germany is based at the British Embassy in Berlin and our consulates in Dusseldorf and Munich. We are part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. Currently, we’re looking for a Climate and Energy Policy Advisor

The main purpose of this role is to support British Embassy activity on climate and energy policy, including the implementation of commitments from the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

This is a fixed-term position until 31 March 2023 with the possibility of contract extension depending on performance and available funding.

What is this role all about?

  • To support the Germany Network in delivering its climate and energy objectives, in close cooperation with economic, political, prosperity and communications colleagues. This will include policy support and project delivery aimed at ensuring the implementation of COP26 commitments, particularly on zero emission vehicles, industrial decarbonisation, clean energy and the Glasgow Breakthrough Agenda. 

  • To support Whitehall colleagues in their engagement with Germany, advising on German priorities and local perspectives, including through briefing for ministers and senior officials.

  • To monitor and report on Germany’s engagement with regional partners and their influence in the EU and wider European region.

  • To plan and implement Embassy-run events, including to support COP26/COP27 objectives.

  • To support engagement with Germany’s regional authorities and non-Government actors.

  • To support Ministerial and official visits from the UK. This could include organising visit agendas, logistical tasks, coordinating with media colleagues.

  • To support the Network´s wider objectives and activities, including on energy, decarbonisation and other current priorities, cooperating with trade and investment colleagues and other teams. 

  • To contribute to wider Embassy work through corporate activity, including crisis work.
