The British Consulate-General in Munich is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are now looking for a Head of Future Mobility to be part of the Department for International Trade (DIT) in Germany, a team of 40 colleagues based in the Embassy in Berlin and Consulates-General in Düsseldorf and Munich.

As the British government’s international economic department, DIT is responsible for delivering DIT’s four outcome delivery plan priorities overseas: To reduce market access barriers, champion free and fair trade, facilitate UK exports to Germany and encourage economic growth through attracting investment into the UK. Roles and responsibilities:

  • Mobility Team Lead:

    As Team lead for Future Mobility in Germany you will be responsible for a team of 3 mobility experts to support strategically important exports from and investments into the UK. You will act as a point of contact and expert advisor to the DIT Germany Senior Management Team on all topics related to Future Mobility in Germany/UK. The role will include budget and business planning responsibility that will need to be coordinated across various government stakeholders. As a senior member of DIT Germany, you will also lead on preparation for Ministerial visits as well as and other cross-sectoral initiatives as required by the senior management team.

  • Delivering strategically important Foreign Direct Investment:

    German and UK mobility supply chains are closely integrated with German Automotive manufacturers, for example, in maintaining over 100 production sites in the UK.

    You will be responsible for winning strategically important investment from German automotive and mobility companies into the UK, as well as ensuring that a steady pipeline of investment projects is maintained by your team. As team leader, you will be expected to build and maintain strong relationships within the industry from Senior Executives right up to C-Level. You will need to have a good fundamental understanding of mobility supply chains, the technological developments within the industry, as well as a strong view on how the industry is likely to develop in the coming years.

    You will need to combine this understanding with the offering of the UK as an investment location to build compelling, bespoke investment propositions for potential investors.

  • Increasing UK Mobility Exports to Germany:

    Germany is a key export market for many UK mobility companies. The team lead is responsible for the Future Mobility Team’s support for leading UK companies entering or expanding in the German market. In addition your team will ensure that several key export relationships with UK mobility companies are managed with a view to their UK-German commercial interests. This will require working closely team members responsible for exports to advise and support them in delivering on these objectives. Given the significance of Germany as an export market, the mobility team will also be expected to advise the senior management team on improvements that can be made to support UK exports that will enable the government to achieve its Export Strategy.

  • Reporting & Analysis

    The team lead should ensure that the Future Mobility Team has an in-depth knowledge of key policy topics related to the German-UK Automotive/Mobility industries. These will include: Decarbonisation of industry, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, supply chains and respective government priorities for industry including subsidies. The team should be able to deliver ad-hoc and scheduled reporting to a diverse audience (including Ambassadors and Ministers) on these topics in close coordination with DIT’s Market Access and Trade Policy Officers.
