The Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region is one of the most important business locations in Europe.

Frankfurt am Main, home to the European Central Bank (ECB) and to Germany‘s central bank, Deutsche Bundesbank, is the City of the Euro. The EU supervisory authority for the insurance business EIOPA and the Frankfurt International Arbitration Center FIAC are also based in Frankfurt am Main. Financial services companies in the region include Deutsche Bank AG, Deutsche Börse AG, Commerzbank AG, DZ Bank AG and KfW Banking Group.

Frankfurt/Rhine-Main is among the most dynamic logistics areas in Germany with Frankfurt Airport (FRA), one of the world’s premier air transport hubs and the largest cargo airport in Europe, as its driving force. Frankfurt Airport, run by Fraport AG, one of the leading players in the global airport business, is served by 89 passenger airlines flying to 262 destinations in 100 countries worldwide. Lufthansa, the largest German airline, has one of its two hubs in Germany in Frankfurt am Main.

The region is also home to many key industries such as the chemical industry with global players including BASF, Boehringer Ingelheim, Fresenius and Merck.

The automotive industry, with more than 200 companies and a workforce in excess of 50,000 employees, is another important sector of industry in the region. Major companies include Continental, GKN Driveline, Goodyear Dunlop Tires, Honda Motor Europe and Opel, a subsidiary of of French automaker Groupe PSA since August 2017, as well as Mitsubishi.

Consulting companies operating in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region include Accenture, Booz Allen Hamilton, Boston Consulting Group, KPMG, McKinsey and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region offers a dense  network of prestigious universities with more than 160,000 students. Universities include Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Darmstadt Technical University, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, European Business School (EBS) and EBS Law School, Oestrich-Winkel. The region also has a large number of international schools.
