Young BCCG Talk – Geopolitical risks and corporate action
with Henning Kuhlmann and Benjamin Lüders
Date: Wednesday, 23 October 2024
Time: 17:30 – 21:00 h CEST
Location: EY Consulting GmbH, Rothenbaumchaussee 76-78, 20148 Hamburg
Geopolitical developments have a significant impact on companies and their global supply chains. Elevated levels of political risk are creating both challenges and opportunities for global organizations, creating an imperative to develop more strategic risk management approaches. While geopolitics is dominated by political actors, companies can integrate (geo-)economic risks into their corporate risk management. To thrive in today’s era of geopolitical volatility, organizations need to integrate cross-functional political risk management into broader corporate risk management, strategy and governance.
The event takes up this complex topic and provides insights how companies actually deal with it. We invited Henning Kuhlmann, Managing Director and CEO Marine Becker Systems GmbH, to bring in the corporate perspective. Marine Becker Systems is a leading provider of maneuvering and energy-saving systems, their products are globally established and used for supertankers, container ships, ferries, cruise ships, and luxury yachts. With foreign business accounting for a good 95%, geopolitical challenges are top of mind for Henning Kuhlmann and he will share his personal view and approach to steer Marine Becker Systems through rough waters. Benjamin Lüders, Partner and EY Risk Consulting Leader for Germany, heads the Risk Consulting competency which offers consulting services around risk management, internal control systems, internal auditing and digital transformation incl. tool solutions. He draws on a broad sector and work experience with over 15 years in the field and will share insights on geopolitical trends and how other companies are dealing with integrating geopolitical risk management into their corporate risk management functions.
After these short keynotes, we will discuss together how do companies actually assess, analyze and mitigate geopolitical risks. We will discuss current examples and explore the main challenges that manufacturers in the mechanical & engineering sector face in today’s geopolitical landscape. Also, what are best practices of other companies and do we see increasing regulations as another geopolitical trend where global companies need to stay ahead?
After the discussion, we would like to continue the networking over drinks and food, kindly sponsored by EY. We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible!
