Are you interested in a career in international trade and investment? Would you like to make an impact in a fast-moving, high-profile international environment? We are looking for an enterprising, team oriented and highly organised Technology Investment Analyst to join the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) team based at the British Consulate in Munich or the British Embassy in Berlin.

This is critical to our economies, supporting millions of jobs, driving economic growth, raising wages and improving living standard across the globe, whilst at the same time promoting wider goals – e.g. tackling climate change and improving economic security. You will play a crucial role delivering this work. DIT Germany has around 40 staff based at the Embassy in Berlin and the Consulates-General in Düsseldorf and Munich.

 

The UK has one of the most vibrant technology ecosystems in the world. This job offers the opportunity to work at the heart of DIT’s strategy to promote trade and inward investment by focusing on cutting edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, 5G, Quantum, Semiconducters, and Cyber Security. Working across the trade and investment functions within the team, you will provide high quality analytical work and support a variety of exciting external engagements. This includes analysing technology procurement and innovation scouting structures, engaging with high growth tech companies on UK expansion plans, coordinating senior visits and briefing papers, and organising and managing business events.

As such, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your own contact networks and knowledge of the UK technology ecosystem’s commercial relationship with Germany.

The successful candidate should have strong analytical, research and communication skills. Working as part of a large team and matrix structure, you will need to be highly organised and able to juggle demands and pick up new issues quickly.

Main duties and responsibilities

Respond to technology Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) enquiries and manage a pipeline of high growth technology company leads.
Support the team’s technology export promotion effort by analysing strategic buyer demand trends and mapping specific procurement and innovation scouting structures.
Project management of VIP and Ministerial visits, including coordinating briefings and programmes with relevant DIT / Embassy teams.
Plan and coordinate business events, webinars, receptions, and marketing and social media activity.
Undertake own desk research to produce reports, inform briefings and respond to other ad-hoc requests.
Organise key meetings and calls with relevant business stakeholders, produce meeting readouts. This will include frequent travel within Germany.


Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Excellent oral and written English and German (to at least level C1 CEFR)
University degree
Experience in relevant field or proven commercial/economic acumen
Strong analytical and research skills
Strong organisational skills and experience leading and coordinating projects
Interest in and knowledge of international tech ecosystems and trade & investment promotion Knowledge of the German and UK business environments
Excellent interpersonal skills and excels working as part of a team
Self-starter and ability to work well on own initiative. Ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple priorities effectively
Good IT skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint
