The British Government in Germany is based at the British Embassy in Berlin and our consulates in Dusseldorf and Munich. We are part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are looking for an Office Assistant to provide administrative, organisational, and to the British Ambassador’s Private Office.
This is a support role at the centre of the Embassy. Working in the Ambassador’s Private Office, the jobholder will have an excellent overview of British engagement with Germany, and the opportunity to develop administrative and foreign policy skills at the heart of one of the UK’s most consequential bilateral relationships.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- General administrative duties including dealing with Private Office post, handling correspondence and telephone enquiries in English and German, distribution and filing of documents;
- Support the Ambassador’s Private Secretary and Diary Manager and the wider Embassy when required for specified projects or events;
- To be the Protocol point of contact with the German Government and other embassies, and to provide advice to the rest of Embassy and London on protocol issues, maintaining the necessary networks to fulfil these duties;
- Arrange Ministerial and senior official visit programmes, ensuring that programmes run smoothly, and that logistical details such as transport, registration, venues and catering are properly arranged;
- Manage and maintain a contacts database, and other tools to improve section efficiency, provide business planning and budget support;
- Carry out ad hoc translation tasks where required, and assist in drafting emails and letters in German;
- Participate in wider Embassy initiatives as required, including engaging in a corporate role;
- Any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the wider work of the Embassy, including crisis work.
Our Ideal Candidates shows:
- Full professional proficiency in German and English (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR* framework), with the ability to translate and proofread accurately;
- Previous professional administrative experience;
- Highly organised with a keen attention to detail;
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with proven experience in managing complex and competing priorities;
- Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information or issues.
Nice to have:
- Previous experience working for a diplomatic mission or government.
- Previous experience working for an international organization.
- Degree in a relevant field (International Relations, Politics)
