Main purpose of job:

As Strategic Business Development Officer – Industrial Tech Corridor, you will support delivery of the UK–Germany Industrial Tech Corridor.

The UK–Germany Industrial Tech Corridor is an ambitious new initiative designed to connect the UK’s most innovative technology companies with Germany’s world-leading industrial base. Bringing together high growth UK scale-ups with German corporates, government partners and innovation ecosystems, the programme will unlock commercial opportunities in industrial AI, automation, cyber security, advanced manufacturing and digital transformation. As part of a flagship UK–Germany collaboration, you will contribute to a programme that drives innovation, supports exports and shapes the future of industrial technology between two of Europe’s leading economies.

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in the UK-Germany relationship, following the landmark Kensington Treaty, and help shape future collaboration that is critical to our mutual competitiveness.
The role sits within the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Germany Tech Team at the British Consulate in Munich. The primary purpose is to ensure effective coordination, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of programme activities that drive UK–Germany industrial tech collaboration and export growth.

The role forms part of the DBT Germany technology and exports function, which focuses on supporting UK tech companies to access the German market and build partnerships with German industry.

The jobholder will work closely with a small team at the British Consulate in Munich in collaboration across the larger DBT Germany network and the wider Germany network as well as German federal and regional government stakeholders and industry partners in the UK and Germany. 

Roles and responsibilities: 

Project delivery support
Support the operational delivery of the Industrial Tech Corridor programme, including planning, coordination, and monitoring of activities against agreed milestones.

Stakeholder engagement
Build and maintain relationships with a wide network of stakeholders, including UK tech companies, German corporates, federal and regional government bodies, and industry organisations.

Programme coordination
Assist in planning and coordinating cross-team and cross-market collaboration within DBT Germany, the wider Germany network, and UK-based stakeholders.

Matchmaking and partnership development
Support the identification of opportunities for collaboration between UK tech firms and German industry, including organising meetings, roundtables, and delegation programmes.

Event delivery
Support the organisation and delivery of high-profile events, visits, and engagements in Germany and the UK.

Monitoring & reporting
Track programme progress, support reporting on outcomes and contribute to briefings for stakeholders.

Administrative support
Provide general administrative and logistical support to ensure smooth programme delivery.

Any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the wider work of the Consulate-General, including crisis work.

Our Ideal Candidate shows: 

  • Fluency at C1 level in German and English, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*;
  • At least one to three years of professional experience in governmental affairs, venture development or business development;
  • A university degree in relevant field;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and respond flexibly to changing demands;
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent attention to detail and record keeping skills;
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders;
  • A collaborative team player, with enthusiasm for working in an international environment;
  • Willingness to support across a wide range of tasks as required.
  • Proactive and goal oriented. Self-starter and ability to work well on own initiative.  
  • Proven commercial experience (external stakeholders engagement in corporate).  
  • Experience managing or assisting at events (e.g setting up events and managing guests lists).
