Pre-concert talk with Jazz & BBC PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA concert

The evening begins at 18:00 h in the Albert Mangelsdorff Foyer with an English-language Behind the Scenes talk. Susan Tackenberg, Catalina Preciado and a musician from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra will share stories and perspectives from their work and lives across different cultures, accompanied by live jazz.

At 19:00 h, guests will move to the Großer Saal for the concert by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Anja Bihlmaier and featuring cellist Pablo Ferrández.

After the concert, everyone is welcome to return to the Albert Mangelsdorff Foyer for a Jazz Chill-Out with Sebastian Scobel & Friends.

Behind the Scenes 

Pre-concert talk, concert and chill-out session with live music: As part of its new ‘Behind the Scenes’ programme, the Alte Oper is inviting members of the many international communities living and working in Frankfurt to enjoy a special evening featuring an English-language pre-concert talk, a visit to the concert and a subsequent chill-out session with live jazz. The opening event, which will feature the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Anja Bihlmaier, and cellist Pablo Ferrández, will focus on the British–German perspective. During the pre-concert talk in the Albert Mangelsdorff Foyer, Susan Tackenberg, a board member of the British Chamber of Commerce in Germany (BCCG), and Catalina Preciado, chair of Young BCCG Rhein-Main, will discuss their work and experiences of navigating different cultures. Musicians from the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra will offer insights into their professional lives, which are split between Manchester and international concert stages. After the concert, the evening will draw to a close with live jazz and an opportunity for conversation and socialising.

The concert

At 19:00 h, the evening continues in the Großer Saal with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by its Principal Guest Conductor Anja Bihlmaier. Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández joins the orchestra as soloist for Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme. The programme also features Ligeti’s Concert Românesc and Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony.
