Kishwer Falkner is a member of the House of Lords where she sits as an independent or ‘cross-bench’ parliamentarian. She is also the Chairwoman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, having been appointed to the equality regulator for Great Britain in 2020.
In her 20 years service in the House of Lords, Kishwer’s specialisation has been foreign affairs, the EU, financial services and economics. She has chaired or served on a number of parliamentary select committees including on topics of national security, European Union, Constitutional Affairs and Human Rights. She was awarded the ‘Peer of the Year’ award for 2023, and holds an honorary doctorate from Northampton University where she was the inaugural Chancellor.
Kishwer is a graduate of the London School of Economics and the University of Kent. She currently lives in London with her husband, a Professor at LSE.
